Kidnapped NYSC Member, Solomon Bassey Daniel Released By Captors After One Year

Solomon Bassey Daniel, one of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) members kidnapped on August 17, 2023, has been released by his abductors. Daniel was among eight prospective corps members and the driver of an Akwa Ibom Transport Corporation (AKTC) bus who were kidnapped along Zamfara Road while en route to Sokoto for their national service.

While the other seven victims were released earlier, Daniel remained in captivity, reportedly due to his family’s inability to pay the ransom demanded by the kidnappers.

The news of Daniel’s release was shared by Citizen Matthew Koffi Okono of the ‘Open Forum’ on Friday night through various WhatsApp platforms. Okono, who had been actively advocating for Daniel’s freedom, expressed gratitude to the public for their prayers during the ordeal. He credited Daniel’s release to divine intervention, without mentioning whether a ransom was eventually paid.

“Finally, Solomon Bassey Daniel is free,” Okono wrote. “God did what only He can do. He’s currently receiving medical attention. Thank you all for the prayers. To God be the glory.”

Daniel is currently receiving treatment at an undisclosed hospital.
